We’ve just come back from a week at the Aqua Mirage Club and it’s a bit of a mixed bag. There are some really good elements, but also a few frustrations that took the edge off the stay.
The stay took place during the first week of April. The hotel appeared to be operating at or near full capacity during this period. In the main restaurant at breakfast, coffee and juice machines ran out of glasses and these were not replenished quickly. Guests at busy times had difficulty finding tables, particularly larger groups, and table clearing and resetting was slow.
Be warned, if you have a pick-up time after 3pm they insist you wait in reception and can not go into the hotel, or you have to pay a ludicrous amount of money. This isn't acceptable when you have paid All Inclusive.
Some positives, views and gardens, but overall there was just too much that ruined our stay. Hotel is very bureaucratic and restrictive policies get in the way of relaxing and enjoying a holiday. We all got ill, hot buffet was tepid, drinks revolting. We ate out as much as possible. Awful smell morning and evening from the water treatment
Would strongly advise against this hotel, had read the reviews and came anyway but it's true, hotel forces people to pay additional charges on departure
We had an excellent time at the Aqua Mirage resort over Easter. Staff were very helpful and attentive. They offer a range of activities for children and the water park is great. We went to the Spa and had the Hamman Bath with facial and it was superb, Mina and Lubina were excellent and were great with my 12yo who had the same treatment. The rooms are spotless and cleaners were great. This resort had a mixture of everything and the excursions are also good - we did the city tour and Atlas Mountains/waterfalls and had a great time. I’d highly recommend this resort!
Disappointing start overshadowing the stay (currently day 2)
I was a bit sceptical given the size of the complex and the number of people staying given it is summer holidays. But I found this to be an amazing hotel. Everything runs very smoothly. Every part of the resort is spotless and is cleaned daily. The outside areas are very pretty and make for a lovely setting. Food is plentiful, loads of choice and very tasty and a great salad bar. There’s loads of staff to help. Just 2 small points and that a sugar free drink option other than water would be good and also a reading light in the bedroom. But neither of these distracted from an excellent stay at a really lovely resort.
This is the Ryanair of hotels. Which is pretty much the worst thing you can say about a business. First attempt of a money-grab at check-in. If you are unfortunate enough to arrive before 3pm, you are not permitted to use the hotel facilities unless you pay a fee for each person (I assume this is the same checking out if your flight is past 11am). If you don’t pay, you must sit and wait in the depressing reception area with mould-covered ceilings until check-in. Travelling with 2 young kids, this is less than ideal, but we put up with it on principle as we only had 1hr to wait. I have never experienced this procedure at any other all-inclusive hotel, and we’ve been to a few. Second scam at checkout. You are required to pay a hefty deposit for pool towels (£60 for 4) upon check-in (fair enough). On checkout, you need to return them to the pool kiosk (which closes 1hr before the pool does), they give you a ticket, and you take your ticket to a separate desk at reception, who refund you your deposit (an absurd process in itself). We went to return our towels when the pool closed at 6 and the kiosk was shut. As we were checking out at 8am the next day (and the pool opens at 9), we went to reception at 6:15pm to ask if they could return our deposit and take our towels. Unfortunately, it was ‘computer says no’ and there was just no way of getting our deposit back, and we were told ‘you can keep the towels if you want’. How thoughtful. When I asked to speak to senior management, I was informed there is NO senior management in the hotel beyond 6pm. Shambolic if true. The guy on the customer service desk had no interest whatsoever in trying to help. Appalling service. There’s a multitude of little charges included in the T&Cs for lost keys, towels etc which is annoying and off-putting (like Ryanair) but also fair enough in a way. Those costs add up and hotels can’t just be expected to swallow the costs all the time. But the check-in process for entry and the towel deposit “service” is an absolute money-grabbing scam. Elsewhere the tiles in the aqua park are sticking up like landmines all over the place and if you get out without breaking a toe you’ll have done well. The buffet room is dirty (floors uncleaned from one meal to the next, smears all over the walls), the Italian restaurant (which you are ‘treated’ to once per stay) is beyond a joke. One of the worst meals I’ve had. And the process of ordering from the à la carte is absurd. You have to preorder for every person a few days in advance. The Moroccan restaurant is fine, and the buffet food is acceptable if a bit chaotic. Although they often run out of plates and other food items which take a while to return. Very limited drinks options for adults and kids. No juices for dinner. Only fizzy drinks! And seemingly no beer for adults, which I’m not fussed about, but I imagine some people will be. Don’t expect too much at the bars either. Generally awful drinks. Don’t even bother with the coffee. They charge for a Lavazza. It’s such a shame because the grounds are lovely, the staff in the main are trying to do a good job, and the facilities are ok. If they could look past making a quick buck at every opportunity, it would actually be an enjoyable, cheerful experience. Would not return or recommend.
